Wednesday morning at 5:32 am emergency personnel responded to multiple vehicle crash on I-74 eastbound near the 122-mile marker. The driver of one passenger car, an adult female, was found deceased in the vehicle.
The investigation found that the initial crash occurred when an eastbound passenger car spun out of control after crossing the bridge at this location and collided with the median cable barrier.
A second passenger car traveling east spun out of control and struck the guard rail and cable barrier before traveling into the path of a semi tractor hauling a loaded tanker. The semi-truck collided with the car and both came to rest on the right shoulder.
The driver of the car in the second crash with the semi tanker was killed.
Alcohol was not believed to be a factor and the crash is weather related. The roadway was slick at the crash location and snow was falling at the time.
A positive identification of the female has not been made at this time.
