A total of 19 stakes will be highlighted during the 2019 Quarter Horse racing season at Indiana Grand Racing & Casino. The stakes, totaling more than $1.5 million, will be spread throughout the 120-day race meet that includes both Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse racing with six nights dedicated to all-Quarter Horse action.
“It is amazing how much Indiana’s Quarter Horse industry has grown recently,” said Kevin Greely, director of racing. “The past two years, we have seen Indiana breds included in the national year-end balloting, new stallions continue to move into our state and we are excited to see the continued growth of this industry in 2019.”
Dates for all-Quarter Horse racing include June 1, July 6, Aug. 10, Sept. 14, Oct. 5 and Oct. 26. All dates are Saturday evening cards beginning at 6:15 p.m. EST. The final all-Quarter Horse night set for Saturday, Oct. 26 will feature four stakes during the evening, including the $150,000 Miss Roxie Little Futurity. Other top stakes during the year include the $150,000 Gordon Mobley Futurity and the $100,000 Jaguar Rocket Futurity set for Saturday, June 15, the $100,000 Blue River Derby set for Saturday, July 20, the $100,000 QHRAI Stallion Service Auction Futurity Saturday, Aug. 24 and the $100,000 Sterlie Bertram Memorial slated for Saturday, Sept. 28.
Martha Claussen, nationally known handicapper and promoter of Quarter Horse racing, will be part of the broadcast team beginning in 2019. Claussen will provide tip sheets, social media posts and in-house handicapping segments for select Quarter Horse races throughout the entire season.

The 17th season of Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse racing will begin Tuesday, April 16 and conclude Wednesday, Nov. 6. Racing will be conducted Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday at 2:15 p.m. EST with Saturday racing beginning at 6:15 p.m. EST. Two special Thursday racing dates will be held July 18 and Sept. 5 at 2:15 p.m. EST.
