A Trip With Penny Lane

Doe Rae Me on "A Trip With Penny Lane" on GIANT 96

"Let's start at the very beginning.
A very good place to start...."

The Sound of Music meets GIANT 96. It has been a perfect INDIANA day! The morning in to work started out with Hero Jr. on the radio and ALL the windows down in the car! PERFECT! Brandon Yates from Shelbyville's AWESOME music store, "The Vibe" was waiting in GIANT 96's lobby ready to produce a commercial! Talked to the promoter of a HUGE 3 DAY MUSIC FESTIVAL in Batesville, Indiana happening this AUGUST at Walhill Farms. Walked out side in the sunshine and thought I seen a red dog, but it was a fawn!

"Doe! A deer, a female deer. Ray. A drop of golden sun."

So precious!

Johnny McCory was thrilled, he said "Venice"! Then my family showed up with our dog Fat Johnny and lunch! I would like to take credit for the Headline for this blog, "Doe Rae Me" but, my husband thought of it. He is pretty creative.

I hope to see the little doe again soon here at THE GIANT of THE BLUE RIVER VALLEY.....Giant 96..REAL RADIO!

1-2-3 GO- remote with GIANT 96!

I had a lot of fun Saturday morning at the GIANT 96 remote: 1-2-3 Go sponsored by Major Pediatrics.

1-2-3- Go is a program designed to help prevent childhood obesity and awareness of the Major Hospital Easy 3 Program. Dr. Paula Gustafson from Major Hospital in Shelbyville explained the Major Hospital Easy 3 Program to listeners on GIANT 96 and participants in the 2013 1-2-3- Go! Gustafson said to drink milk and water with meals, NO SWEETEN drinks and only eat snacks and meals while sitting at the dinner table. ALSO, WALK, WALK, WALK every day!

2013 1-2-3- Go involved 6 local schools elementary students having a walking contest to see which school had the most steps from students walking around the Shelbyville High School Track. Major cash prizes were awarded for the winning schools!

Congrats to every person who participated! First place went to Hendricks Elementary with 937,094 steps winning $2,500 and Waldon Elementary placed in second with 554,291 steps bringing $1,000 back to their school!

It was great to watch all the prizes be given to so many Shelby County elementary youth! Baseballs, Basketballs, Soccer Balls, Hula Hoops, Indianapolis Indians Tickets, Light up Jump Ropes...the list goes on and on! Oh and the grand prize of the day??? Two lucky kids shown above (Malea Terrel (Hendricks elementary) and Sarah Spence (Coulston elementary) had a great, healthy day fighting childhood obesity AND brought home an Apple I-Pad! Pretty cool! The crowd was going nuts!

As a GIANT 96 employee, I was impressed at how well the event went! So much fun!

In the middle of the track the student council had games going on for the children to participate in during breaks from walking. I was pretty busy working and did not have a chance to walk over, but, they were giving away goldfish as a prize! Pretty cool! I would like to thank the awesome young lady from Girls Inc who donated her goldfish to the GIANT 96 staff! How special, we decided on the name "Bait" for the fish. My husband and I use to try and keep Goldfish alive at Blossom Chevrolet when we sold cars and never had any luck! AT ALL!

The Used Car Salesman called our fish tank a fish graveyard. All the car salesman put things in the water! LOL Oh my the old days!

I spoke to the Coordinator of Healthy Shelby County, Denise Holland. I have seen Denise in Shelby County Dog 4-H and she is just a cool person. Denise told GIANT 96 listeners that 26% of Shelby County Adults use tobacco, 36% are obese and 33% are physically inactive. This behavior can lead to heart disease and diabetes. Denise also mentioned that poor health as a community is unattractive to business' looking for a place to start their business. I never really thought about it that way, but it makes sense health insurance, people being sick, etc.

Afterwards after spending quality time with my younger brother listening to music REAL loud, I decided to walk home instead of ride the moped. It was enjoyable and I even drank lots of water! Hey Rome wasn't built in a day!
